Lake House Micro Wedding Inspiration in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.

There’s something undeniably magical about an intimate lakefront wedding. Tucked away on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, Wolfeboro, New Hampshire offers the perfect backdrop for couples dreaming of a micro wedding that’s both relaxed and elevated. Recently, I had the joy of photographing a wedding that struck this exact balance at The Laughing Loon, a private lake house rental with character, charm, and those iconic Winnipesaukee views.

Whether you're just starting to plan your own lakeside celebration or simply gathering inspiration, here are some tips to help you pull off a casual yet upscale wedding in this idyllic New England setting.

1. Choose the Right Lake House Venue

The venue sets the tone, and The Laughing Loon did not disappoint. With its rustic-luxe aesthetic, expansive lawn, private dock, and vintage charm, it created a cozy yet elevated environment for the couple and their closest loved ones. They also rented a second nearby lake home to host the ceremony and reception — a great option if you're aiming to keep the guest list small but still want room for bigger weekend festivities.

Pro tip: Book early. Wolfeboro is a summer hotspot, and lakefront rentals with wedding-friendly amenities go fast.

2. Let the Natural Setting Inspire Your Design

One of the best things about a lake house wedding is that nature does most of the decorating for you. The couple leaned into that with an outdoor ceremony framed by tall pines and lake views, followed by a tented dinner reception under the stars.

To add just the right amount of polish, they brought in locally-sourced flowers from Full Moon Farm, bursting with summer color — bold poppies, golden rudbeckia, cosmos, zinnias, and garden roses that looked freshly picked (because they were!). Seasonal wildflower-style arrangements are having a moment right now, and they added a playful elegance that felt totally at home by the water.

3. Keep It Intimate, but Intentional

One of the joys of a micro wedding (generally 50 guests or fewer) is that every detail can feel personal. This couple opted for a long family-style dinner table overlooking the lake, with mismatched vintage glassware, handwritten menus, and candles tucked between the blooms.

Having fewer guests allowed them to splurge where it mattered — like hiring a private chef, bringing in a live band, and crafting a locally-inspired cocktail menu.

4. Lean Into Comfort Without Losing Style

Upscale doesn’t have to mean formal. The dress code for this day was “lake-chic” — flowy dresses, soft linens, and bare feet on the dock.

5. Make It a Full Weekend Experience

Wolfeboro is made for long weekends. The couple kicked things off with a welcome BBQ on the deck and ended the festivities with a Sunday brunch and boat ride. With the sparkling lake, cozy town vibes, and breathtaking sunsets, you’ll want to build in time to just be present with your people.

Bonus: Many guests turned the wedding into a mini-vacation, exploring local shops, hiking trails, and coffee spots around town.

If you're looking to plan a New England micro wedding that’s equal parts casual and elegant, a lake house in Wolfeboro is about as dreamy as it gets. With a little creativity, intentional design, and the right vendors you can create a celebration that feels intimate, stylish, and deeply personal.
